Here are a couple thoughts from last Sunday's talk on (perhaps) the most controversial passage in all of the New Testament, James 2:14-26.
- The Apparent Contradiction — For years, people have pointed to apparent contradictions between what Paul said and what James said:
- Ephesians 2:8-9 vs. James 2:14
- Romans 3:28 vs. James 2:24
- The Important Distinction — Here's the deal. Every New Testament character says the same thing. (a) Salvation ONLY comes by God's grace through faith; not by our own good works. (b) Then good works will ALWAYS follow your salvation, if it was real in the first place.
- Jesus said it (John 6:29, 14:12)
- Paul said it (Ephesians 2:8-10, Galatians 5:6)
- James said it (James 1:21-22)
- John said it (1 John 5:1,13, 2:3-5, 3:16-17)
- Sunday Story — I received this story from Doug on from last week's message:
- "Tim, Sunday’s message was a real eye opener. I guarantee there were people leaving the church that day questioning their salvation including myself. I met with my boss this morning who is a deacon in his church and I mentioned the Sunday message and he made a good point how God will use a message like that to talk to us, telling us we are not representing Him thru Christ and we need to wake-up. Tim, thank you for this message (that gave direction) for not only me but those who need to get to WORKS. Doug"
