Since I was away at our Pastors Retreat this week, I couldn't post these to my blog.  (Check out my next entry to find out what we did at the retreat.)

Here's what I got this week. Enjoy!

Mon 5/2

  • Sometimes people leave out the part of the story where they were guilty too. It doesn't generate as much sympathy (Judg 20:5)
  • It's smart to ask people for advice. It's smarter to ask God first. (Judg 21:16)
  • Pride not only turns people off, it also leads to your downfall, sometimes in an embarrassingly public way (Prov 18:12)

Tue 5/3

  • If you are single, it's so important to look for a spouse who's seeking after God much harder than a marriage (Ruth 1:16)
  • A fantastic picture of Christ — He knows every single thing you've ever done & wants to reward you for serving (Ruth 2:11-12)
  • When it comes to marriage, character trumps beauty. Beauty will sag. Character will stay. (Ruth 3:11)
  • You're only as big (or wise) as the smallest thing it takes for you to lose it (Prov 19:11)

Wed 5/4

  • It is a great mark of character that, when you are attacked, instead of getting back at someone, you pray (1Sam 1:7)
  • God is looking for people to be faithful to whatever is in the heart & mind of God (1Sam 2:35)
  • Any fool can start an argument. It takes a wise person to know how to end it. (Prov 25:3)

Thu 5/5

  • God can prompt people before they realize it is God. At that moment, they just need someone to clue them in. (1Sam 3:6-7)
  • God is not a talisman. The cross on your neck, fish on your car, and statue in the cathedral hold no power. (1Sam 4:3)
  • God can change ANYONE'S mind. People are often like water. They prefer to follow the path of least resistance. (Prov 21:1)
