Want to read the Bible with me today?

First, ask God to see something you can apply to your life.

Then, read 2 Kings 17.

Then, write down something you can apply to your life.

Then, read what I wrote:

 - Historical — This chapter records the sad story of the final days of the northern tribes of Israel: their departure from following God, their invention of personalized false religions, and what Israel forced God to do to try to get their attention and heart.

 - Doctrinal — I’m thinking about the 200 years that the northern kingdom of Israel existed (without one king that was called “good” or followed God!) before their defeat and captivity. It reminded me of the amazing patience of God. God is so patient with us; so longsuffering; so wanting to reach us through His love instead of more and more serious consequences.

 - Inspirational — God? Would you please help me reexamine my life today and see in what ways I (like Israel) have created or allowed “high places” in me (i.e. values, actions or attitudes that are that flat out wrong) that I need to recognize as sin, root out, and destroy?
