Juror #8 by Tim Howey | Nov 5, 2007 | Current Affairs | 1 comment It happened. I was chosen for the jury. I’m juror #8. I can’t talk about the case yet. The trial continues a 2nd day tomorrow. Another day of "power-sitting-and-listening." 1 Comment j-luv on November 6, 2007 at 9:10 am I’m proud of you fulfilling your civic duty. It just reminds me of a stand-up comedian’s joke about our legal system. “You get accused, indicted, and go to trial by jury, but not always of your peers; by people who weren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty!” Not that this in any way applies to you, of course. I am aware that it was not any lack of intelligence but your sense of responsibility, of right and wrong, your moral code, and obedience to the law that kept you from making any false statements that might have precluded you from service. I will, however, be playing scenes in my mind of Henry Fonda and “12 Angry Men” when I think of you today. If it’s a juicy trial and you think there might be a book deal after, keep me in mind if you need an agent! May justice be swift.
