We're about to make history. Either we're about to elect our first African-American as President, or our first woman as Vice President.
And it's SO important you exercise your right to vote. But it's even MORE important to be informed about the candidates.
Someone shot me this ABC News Link giving you quotes from the candidates which help you learn about their positions on various issues.
Check it out!
That’s an awesome quiz that ABC has! Thanks for recommending it.
Don’t forget the other historic candidate: McCain would be the oldest first term president in history if he won. I think this is also milestone worth mentioning, especially with the often overlooked issue of ageism in the American workplace. It’s illegal to discriminate against people over the age of 55 because of their age, race, gender, or religion. I think that these laws should apply to elected officials too, all too often they don’t.
Clarification to my earlier comment: race, gender, and religion are all independent of age. I think I kind of made it sound like they only applied to people over 55 in my previous comment.
Great point, Aaron. I didn’t think about that “first” as well!
And you’re absolutely right that age discrimination can happen regardless of those factors.
In addition, age discrimination can happens if someone is considered “too young” as well as “too old.”
Yes, but the law doesn’t protect the ‘too young’:(
